A sustainable approach by using microalgae to minimize the eutrophication process of Mar Menor lagoon

The present study evaluates the removal capacity of microalgae photobioreactors environmental pollutants in wastewater from dry riverbed El Albujón, as a way to minimize eutrophication process Mar Menor. Particularly, four autochthonous consortia collected different locations salty lagoon remove emerging contaminants (simazine, atrazine, terbuthylazine, adenosine and ibuprofen), nitrates, phosphates, was evaluated. Among consortia, consortium 1 best terms biomass productivity (0.11 g L−1 d−1) specific growth rate (0.14 d−1), providing 100% maximal reduction consumption macronutrients, especially nitrates reaching levels below 28 mg L−1, that is, decrease 89.90 99.70% respectively. Therefore, this (Monoraphidium sp., Desmodesmus subspicatus, Nannochloris sp.) could be selected green filter for successful large-scale applications.
